It’s no secret that Courtney Love, the widow of Kurt Cobain, truly doesn’t have a filter when it comes to voicing her opinions – just look at her interview history over the past decades.

In a recent conversation with The Standard UK, the 59-year-old musician criticised a number of today’s biggest pop stars, including Taylor Swift, Madonna, Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé.

“Taylor is not important,” Love told the publication. “She might be a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of now, but she’s not interesting as an artist.”

On Del Rey, she stated, “I haven’t liked Lana since she covered a John Denver song, and I think she should really take seven years off.” She also claimed that she doesn’t like Madonna, and “[Madonna] doesn’t like me”.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but netizens have slammed Love for her attempt at dragging down the most talented musical icons of our generation.

To be fair though, she did acknowledge their successes too.

“It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry, but lots of them are becoming a cliché,” Love noted. “They’re all the same. If you play something on Spotify, you get bombarded with a lot of stuff that’s exactly the same. I mean, I like the idea of Beyoncé doing a country record because it’s about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed, not that I like it much. As a concept, I love it. I just don’t like her music.”

Here are some of Courtney Love’s biggest controversies involving other celebs.

1. Charlie Sheen

Love stirred controversy when she brought up her experience shooting heroin at Charlie Sheen’s house in the 1990s, as shared in an interview on The Fix.

“A Hollywood-connected beau took me to this star-studded party at Charlie Sheen’s house in Malibu,” she recalled. “Tom Cruise was there, and Madonna … [singer Jennifer Linch] convinced me to shoot up. ‘Come on, everyone’s doing it.’ So that’s when my whole heroin drama began.”

She said she finally managed to kick the habit by 1996, “except for one incident in July 2005, where I shot myself up on purpose to kill myself”, she added.

2. Madonna

Back in 1995, Love infamously crashed Madonna’s interview by yelling in the background at the MTV Video Music Awards.

After interviewer Kurt Loder picked up on the shouting, he invited a seemingly intoxicated Love to their conversation.

3. Britney Spears

Love raised eyebrows when she made very serious accusations against Britney Spears’ dad in 2009, as seen in a post she shared on Facebook.

It read, “Britney’s dad molested her; imagine the father that molested you owning you for slavery while you’re forced to sing songs picked for their sexual content every night – insane, right? I have it on first-hand authority, and fight as hard as she does, she still didn’t pull that card; it’s a pride thing I can relate to. However, they want to play dirty, let’s go – I’m so not afraid of the little trolls who hit this when I was f***ed up who are called lawyers. Let’s go.”

4. Frances Bean Cobain, her daughter

Love and her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, are known to have a complicated history.

As previously reported, after Love attacked her daughter online, calling her “deceptive and deluded” for choosing to live with her dad’s side of the family, Frances was granted a restraining order in 2009, barring her mum from contacting her directly or indirectly, Marie Claire reported.

In 2012, Love accused Kurt’s Nirvana bandmate Dave Grohl of being sexually inappropriate towards Frances – then just 19 years old. Frances shot down the comments though, and responded by saying, “Twitter should ban my mother,” per Rolling Stone.
