Where are Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova now? The ‘king of Latin pop’ and former tennis champ shared steamy scenes in his ‘Escape’ video in the 2000s, now they share 3 kids – but did they ever marry?
In the early 2000s, she was a bombshell tennis star and he was a heartthrob singer. Fast forward to 2024 and Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova have spent the best part of two decades forging a life together while keeping their relationship out of the public eye – mostly.
Now, the pair spend their time raising their three children, sharing occasional updates on social media, and taking part in ventures that strike their interest. Here’s what you need to know about the A-list couple.
Did Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova really meet on the set of a music video?
Kournikova, 42, and Iglesias, 48, first connected in 2001 after meeting on the set of his “Escape” music video. The tennis pro played his love interest and the pair shot some steamy scenes all in the name of art.
Later, when the singer was on MTV’s Making the Video, he told the crew that Kournikova was “beautiful, talented, a great tennis player”, adding that “it doesn’t take a good actor to try and kiss Anna and make it believable”.
Still, it doesn’t appear that the couple ever intended to tie the knot. In 2008, Kournikova told People magazine, “I’m never getting married. I’m good.”
What is their relationship like today?
The couple have now been together for over 20 years – and have famously avoided talking about their relationship. But in October last year, Iglesias gave rare insight, telling People magazine that the “Escape” music video changed his life in “ways that I didn’t even think about”.
He also told the publication that they both grew up in the spotlight and their shared fame resulted in an understanding about each other’s lives: “We just started connecting little by little, and got stronger and stronger and stronger.”
Do Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova have kids?
The couple have three children together: twins Nicholas and Lucy, six, and daughter Mary, four. In December last year, Enrique opened up about family life in an interview with People magazine, saying that he uses music to cheer his kids up.
“When I pick them up from school and they’re having a bad day or one of them is crying or they’re fighting, we say, ‘Guys, what’s your favourite song?’ And then one breaks out into ‘I Like It’, and then they all start singing it, and it’s so cute,” said the singer.
Per People, the children have only seen Iglesias on stage during rehearsals, as he still considers them too young to attend live concerts.
Does Enrique Iglesias still make music?
However, he added that he might release a song here and there, and he hasn’t made any statements regarding touring.
Kournikova, meanwhile, has spent much of the last decade focusing on being a mum and wife – although she’s engaged in philanthropic efforts, too. She serves as an ambassador to Population Services International and has travelled to Haiti to raise awareness about impoverished areas there. She also took part in the Nautica South Beach triathlon in 2009 to raise money for the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In 2011, she was cast as a coach on season 12 of NBC’s The Biggest Loser – but left amid widespread rumours about her being a diva on set. She denied that she was fired from the show, however, claiming she simply thought it was “not the right fit” for her, reported People magazine.
