A 31-year-old man was charged with one count of murder on Friday in relation to the death of a Hong Kong taxi driver whose neck was slashed in Sai Wan.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday outside a shop on Lamma Island, one day after he allegedly attacked the 48-year-old taxi driver at the junction of Eastern Street and Queen’s Road West.

The victim collapsed at the scene, and died shortly thereafter in Queen Mary Hospital.

Officers searching the area discovered a bag full of bloodstained surgical masks and a meat cleaver with a 16cm blade on the rooftop of a nearby building.

The case will be mentioned at Kwun Tong Court on Saturday morning.
