Hong Kong law enforcement officers took three suspects into custody on Tuesday over an abduction case. A woman had been kidnapped from a bustling Tsim Sha Tsui shopping district a day earlier, the SCMP learned.

Police said they received a report at noon on Monday that two men wearing black outfits, caps and masks had attacked and shoved a 47-year-old woman into a vehicle along the junction of Ichang Street and Hankow Road.

The car was then seen heading in the direction of Mong Kok.

Officers later found the woman, uninjured, in a car outside Heng Yuet House at Heng On Estate in Ma On Shan, about 21km (13 miles) away from the scene of the kidnapping.

A source close to the investigation said on Tuesday that three suspects were arrested for false imprisonment.

The insider said the trio would be taken to their homes to conduct searches, adding that more details would be announced later.

During the incident, the police said they had received several calls from witnesses, including a passer-by, a restaurant worker and a taxi driver, before officers rushed to the scene.

The woman can be heard yelling for help in an online video clip taken from a taxi’s dashcam driving behind the abductors’ car.

Other than the two abductors, a man showed up next to the car before the pair restrained the woman and shoved her into the vehicle, which then sped off.

In the clip, the man can be seen fleeing the area on foot.

A police spokesman said later on Monday that a shoe, which appeared to be a beige slip-on sneaker, was found at the scene. It is believed to belong to the victim.

The case is being handled by the Yau Tsim district crime squad.
